MEET KELLY

I am a Certified Personal Trainer living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My passion is helping my clients overcome their challenges and achieve their goals so they can live their lives to the fullest potential, mentally, physically and spiritually. Knowing what my clients have accomplished with my guidance over the past 6 years fuels my passion even more, every day.

While I have always been active (Hockey, Soccer, Baseball, Golfing, Hiking, Running), joining the YMCA gym at age 15 was when I found my true passion. This led me to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Kinetics with a Major in Kinesiology at St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Upon completion, I travelled to Vancouver BC for adventure and work experience in my field of study and had a very successful six-year tenure as a personal trainer with the Steve Nash Sports Club organization.

I make time to work out six days a week and have learned how to discipline my eating habits so that I can live a healthy balanced lifestyle (with some treats along the way). Whether your goal is fat loss, strength training, living pain-free, working through health limitations, or athletic training, our training sessions are personalized to fit your needs, focusing on achieving long-term results through challenging and effective workouts.

My goal is simple, I want to help people learn how to live a balanced life, so they can enjoy a happy, healthy and pain-free life as well.

Fitness Evaluations

Having an Evaluation with your trainer is important to determine if we are a good fit.

A Fitness Consultation is important to get a personalized assessment of where your body is right now. Training programs should consider each client, their environment, and the tasks that will be performed in their daily lives. It's important to address any potential muscles imbalances and movement deficiencies that one may possess to improve function and decrease the risk of injury. An integrated assessment may include gait (your walk), functional movement screening (including strength, mobility and stability tests), health limitations, eating habits, and daily activities. This information will allow us to design the most unique and safest program for you!

Personalized Program Design

Having a personalized program will maximize your training potential.

Working with today's typical clients, who more than likely possess muscle imbalances, health and fitness professionals must take special consideration when designing programs. Some online cookie-cutter programs may seem inexpensive, but may not be the best fit for your individual body.

In this program, you will have an initial Skype or in-person consultation to discuss your goals, limitations and assess any imbalances that need specific training. Depending on the program package that best suits your needs, you will then receive a workout program (in-home, travel, or fitness facility) that will help guide you to a better you. This will also include on-going email contact for progress updates and any questions you have regarding your fitness goals.

Partner Training

Skating Coach and Conditioning

Skating can be a great cardio workout and a fun activity with others. There are many skating rinks that offer low cost, even free skates, as well as the Oval at the Commons. I have been playing hockey since the age of 4 and volunteered as a Powerskating Instructor for over 9 years with Stellarton Recreation and St.FX University.

Let me help you on ice, as well as off-ice dry land training, to develop or improve your existing skating skills.

Kinesiology

WHAT IS KINESIOLOGY:

Kinesiology is the science of human movement, applying the latest evidenced-based research to improve function, health and wellness of people in all settings and populations.  A Kinesiologist will cover the spectrum of rehabilitative and wellness services from the active rehabilitation of an injury through to high-performance training. Many people will be referred to a Kin after seeing a physiotherapist or chiropractor to begin active rehabilitation (exercise). This involves learning proper movement mechanics, fixing muscle imbalances and building an overall strong and healthy body.

WORKING WITH A KINESIOLOGIST:

  • If you have an injury, disability or medical condition(s) and want to improve your health and fitness in a safe progressive manner
  • If you are undergoing medical treatment (Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, etc) and want to increase your level of fitness
  • Have a referral from a doctor to begin active rehabilitation or work conditioning
  • Your goals are better health (inside and out); better quality of life; improved movement ability
  • If you want to learn how to manage your condition(s) with physical activity and lifestyle changes
